Beatrix Potters museum

On our last day at the Lake District, we decided to take our time having breakfast and leisurely getting ready to go. The hotel we were at was really nice and included an indoor pool. Amir was determined to use it which we did the evening before watching the rain fall above us through the glass ceiling. After another yummy breakfast we had a look around in the gardens and grounds.

Once we had checked out we decided to go to the Beatrix Potter museum before we headed on the long drive back. It’s not very big but was actually quite nice, the price was also very reasonable. I would say its more child friendly than anything but the works on display and the stories they tell are quite fascinating if your into the whole Peter rabbit and co works.

Lake District anniversary weekend

Last weekend Amir had booked us a anniversary weekend away in the Lake District area. I’ve always wondered what it was like and have always been curious to go there so was looking forward to this trip! The weekend fell on the anniversary of our wedding day last year which made it even nicer for us.

We left late Friday morning and drove the gazillions of miles up north. We made pit stops for loo and lunch which made the journey easier. Amir even went out the evening before and got us snacks for the journey and something for me to read to keep me entertained…

We got to our hotel around 4pm and guess what…it was raining! In fact the whole weekend was pretty much rainy and cold, not that it stopped us. Here’s a few pics of what we got up to.

We relaxed a while and unpacked before going for a walk in the rain with our brollies. Unfortunately for me I had only packed summery bits (optimistic as I was) but luckily took a pair of old trainers I ended up wearing the whole weekend instead 😉 we walked up to a boating area which had some nice greenery around with some cool views.

When we came back we found our room had been remade (yeh we messed it up a little..well amir did, messy one) and found chocs on our pillows! That got me well excited and raving on about how ‘posh’ the place was!

20130911-124437.jpg

We went out for a late night dinner in the local town and got to bed ready for tomorrow’s exploring.

We woke up to the best breakfast I’ve ever had. It was seriously posh and seriously tasty!!!

20130911-124603.jpg

20130911-124626.jpg

We then headed out to Brockhole visitors centre, we started off our day with a treetop trek which I have done before, it was scary (I’m afraid of heights) but exhilarating! I loved the thrill of it, was so so so much fun!

By the time we had zip wired to the end of the course amir (to my hilarity and not sympathy) had incurred some injuries and refused to walk the second higher course with me, we ended up going on the third level to do the zipwire ride twice which was sooooo worth it!

After we had returned our harnesses we walked around (in the rain) and came to the pier where we could boat out way to Ambleside and then to Wray Castle, we decided this was easier than returning to the town to go boating so got tickets and waited ten minutes for the boat to arrive.

20130911-125628.jpg

We arrived at Ambleside confused as to when the next boat to Wray castle was and turned out it would be a 40minute wait! We decided to lunch while we waited as it was raining anyway so had some fish and chips in a small shop where we could easily keep an eye out for our boat to arrive.

The one thing I found in the area was everyone was so friendly! Even the chip shop man made us aware his normal fish and chips wouldn’t be suitable for our halal requirements and suggested a gluten free version which would be cooked seperately for us! It was yummy!

20130911-125914.jpg

We finished stuffing our faces (I say we I mean me) just in time for the boat to arrive! This time it was less crowded and we got the Wray castle to explore. The castle itself looked beautiful from outside but having been neglected inside for so long we were told it was still being refurbished and restored since only last year.

Luckily we made our way to the pier again early and a good thing too as the boat arrived early, we made our way back to the visitors centre, to our car and home to rest a while before heading out for dinner again.

20130911-131136.jpg

The day itself weather wise had been rubbish, we got rained on about every 5 minutes but we still had lots of fun and I don’t think I laughed so much (mostly at Amir) ever! which was so worth it. It was also nice to spend time together being in a beautiful place and having a romantic adventure 🙂 X

A week at mums :) ❤

I’ve just spent the first week of the summer hols back at mums! Every once in a while Amir will drop me back to my old home where I try and spend time with the family, kids and catching up with friends.

I spent this week catching up with a few friends which was great, chilling with my sisters and eating lots of good home made mum food. I also spent a lot of my time with my gorgeous little niece! My brother and sis in laws gorgeous little bubba was so hard to put down and I loved cooing over her and seeing her do lots of funny baby stuff.

gorgeous!

I also managed to finish off my Eid shopping during the week which leaves me free to enjoy and make the most of the last few days left of Ramadan. Last night before I left to come back home my sister in law and bro had offered to make food for Iftar inviting my sisters kids and in laws as my husband and bro in law too. My older sister F’s little baby came over too and I spent most of the evening picking both of my nieces up in turn and hugging and kissing them before I went.

matching cousins 🙂 sooo cute

The food was made and served in my mums garden which is already blooming with her pretty flowers and trees. The grub was great and plentiful and the evening was spent chattering, laughing and having fun. Aside from it being overly warm I had a really nice evening. Here’s some of the awesome food my brother and sis in law made.

I’m back at home now having spent a nice and somewhat relaxing week at my mums, I shall hopefully be going back on Eid day at the end of the week to enjoy more family fun and madness, can’t wait! X

Iftar with the family

Over the weekend we went over to Amirs cousins house in London (or as the boys call it ‘the ghetto’). We left late-ish and intended to get together late evening to open our fast.

When we got there the ladies got together to help prepare a feast. Mum in law made up her delicious samosas:

Aunty S fried all the samosas:

Cousins S made some delicious chocolate milkshake:

And I cut up the fruit (forgot to take a pic up close).

Me and cousin S set up the table with all the delightful starters.

Whilst all the ladies were hard at work, what were the boys upto?

goofing around with the telly new surround sound system

The boys even managed to stop us working to get us all to hear the new system which in fact was pretty cool.

We sat down to open our fast and break samosas together…the food was absolutely scrumptious! Luckily my in laws cooking is just as amazing as my mums and every day for Iftar there is something yummy to eat.

waiting to start…

20130725-093141.jpg
…and go!

It was a really nice atmosphere of talking and joking and crazy as my in laws are it wasn’t long before a game was started…Chinese whispers! The amount of times the words were changed to gobbledygook caused roars of laughter..

After we had all calmed down we dug into some chocolate cake given to cousin F for his birthday during the week and my New York cheesecake! 🙂 I made two batches and bought one along for dessert, it was gobbled up pretty quickly.

20130725-093709.jpg

20130725-093718.jpg
yum yum!

We stayed till late talking, joking and telling stories until our full stomachs bought on sleepiness which was our cue to leave and get tucked up into bed. I dozed off half a dozen times on the way back but was worth it having spent a really nice evening in the company of my lovely family. X

School’s out for summer!

Finally…School is out! After teaching in the heat for the last few weeks teachers everywhere have no doubt been counting down the days left before we can wind down, relax and enjoy some well deserved holidays.

This past week was spent getting the children to enjoy their last few days as a class and doing fun activities (basically whatever it takes to leave us alone for a while and requires minimum effort). I’ve been supplying long term at a local school and over the last term have enjoyed working with the class I had.

As I won’t be back in September myself and all those who were leaving were given a special assembly. I sat at the front (awkwardly yet smiley) and listened to the words of thanks and cheers. We even had songs sung about us, I was given my own verse! (And how these words ring true) 😉

20130723-223107.jpg

20130723-223125.jpg

Parents, staff and children all over the school handed out gifts and hugs as another academic year was over, some tears and some smiling with memories.

I too received a small stash of thanks (which I had not expected at all!) which was very sweet, especially the cute hand made cards by all those I had taught. Can’t wait to dig into those chocs!

20130723-222126.jpg

20130723-222137.jpg

Overall a nice last few weeks which made a good end to the year. I’ve supplied in lots of schools but it was definitely nice to have a stable local school for the last term. Doesn’t mean I’m still not ecstatic about not having to get up so early for the next few weeks though! I will for one certainly be enjoying my summer holidays, long lie ins, lazy days and general freedom! Have a good summer break teachers and teaching staff everywhere! X

A sunny Saturday with the family

We had some family come over on this sunny weekend so we made the most of it. A feast was made by mum in law and dessert by me, it was nice seeing family we hadn’t seen in ages as we spent the day talking and having a good time.

Here’s a pic of the feast we had, to be honest though I was so busy scoffing so these are after eating pics but it was a lot more than this!

20130707-162648.jpg
delicious!

For dessert we had fresh cream Victoria sponge cake with strawberries, perfect for a summer day and apt for the Wimbledon season 🙂

20130707-163054.jpg

20130707-163103.jpg
all got eaten up quickly!

After dinner we relaxed abit and the parents got watching my and Amirs wedding video (which some of the family hasn’t seen yet). As lovely as it was seeing it for the 34th time me as amir decided to take the boys to the park for some fun and games. There is a park across the road so we walked across to play…

We then decided to play on some of the equipment, I didn’t take any pics but there is a cool glider which was lots of fun swinging from one end off a platform to reach the other end. We then got to the funky swing…

A birthday trip to Bournemouth

Last bank holiday weekend we all decided to take a day trip as part of my younger sister N’s birthday celebrations. She had already decided she wanted to go to Bournemouth and thankfully on the day the weather was gorgeous!

We did get stuck in traffic on the way but we entertained ourselves and ha a laugh anyway. We also went through some of the many snacks we’d all brought (now a big fan of the new Maryland individually wrapped cookies!)

The beach was gorgeous and even had some lovely seashells lying around. My sisters and Saq spent much of the time snapping pics with their lah-di-dah cameras (courtesy of which are some of the following pics which I nicked hehe, thanks guys! 😉 )

the boys highlight of the day was when my older sis M was taking pics of the tide and was soaked by a particularly big wave!

We then walked the extremely long and tiring and tough way back up (throwing in words of encouragement to each other through gasps of breath). That is all except Amir who ran up to the top and acted like it was nothing!

We presented my sis with all her birthday presents in the car at the top and she was delighted. I made her a basket of gifts including perfume, a shawl, a handbag, mini gadgets and some shoes. I also baked her these the day before which we all enjoyed.
