My anniversary Registry β€

Amir and I finally got round to getting our registry done last weekend! We never got round to it in the chaos of wedding prep last year so eventually decided to do it on our first year anniversary. Unfortunately the dates didn’t quite match up to last year and we ended up missing the closest date so settle for the 14th which was closest to the walima.

The day went lovely! We got up early (to the sound of rain..) and I spent an hour putting my face on…well mostly sticking on eyelashes which kept coming off! Got there in the end though. I then got changed and went to the hairdressers to get my hair done as I wanted to look nice and hairstyling is not really my strong point. By the time I left the hairdressers I was pretty much ready, on time and just had a few last minute touches to add! To add a sentimental touch I used a hair piece from my engagement, my bangles and bag from my wedding day and was so so so lucky to be given a beautiful brooch by my mother in law who had been given to her by her mother in law and it matched perfectly!

Once the family had all arrived we made our way to the registry office to get married…lawfully and officially! πŸ™‚

Thankfully the weather stayed ok enough during this time too. Once we’d posed for more pictures than amir wanted we made our way home to relax a while and to allow time for midday prayers before lunch. I took the time to enjoy the lovely gifts I received from family, jewellery, beautiful flowers and LOTS of chocolate!

Once everyone had had a few minutes to relax, chit chat and give me plenty of much deserved compliments (I know, I’m sooo modest! Haha) we made our way to the restaurant nearby where we had booked the upstairs area for our lunch.

While we waited a few speeches were made and amir was even encouraged to make one which was sweet. I refused on the other hand which Amir moaned about…hey! I wasn’t prepared and I don’t do ‘on the spot’ speeches thankyou! πŸ˜‰

The food arrived slowly at first but soon our tables were filled, the food was yummy! Almost everyone commented on how good it all tasted which was great. And for dessert? What else…..cake!!!!

Once we had all eaten some of our family had to set off home and the rest came home with us to spend the evening laughing and celebrating our anniversary, marriage and mum in laws and cousin S’ birthday as well with more gifts and more cake! (I must’ve eaten about 3 slices that day!)

Mostly though, I was just happy I got to marry the man I luuuurve all over again and be reminded of how lucky I am and how happy he makes me, hope our marriage lasts forever and always. X

Happy 1st Anniversary!

Me and my husband started the celebrations of our one year anniversary yesterday which marked a year from when we signed our nikkah papers.

I can’t believe a whole year has gone by so quickly and as clichΓ©’d as it sounds it feels like only yesterday we were getting married and celebrating. The time has gone by so quickly full of so much love, happiness and fun. We had our massive amounts of ups and like most marriages some downs too.

I’m so thankful for my amazing husband and all that he is, I could never have imagined a year ago I would feel the way I do now. I look forward to many more years of being happily married cos for me…this is just the beginning!

We are going away this weekend for a romantic get away to the Lake District, can’t wait i am so excited! It’ll be the perfect chance to get some quality couple time together and make the most of our anniversary weekend (as that was the weekend we had the actual wedding day

For now though we started the mini celebrations by treating ourselves to some yummy dessert…

I look forward to spending the the rest of my life making the most of my marriage and all that’s in it, love my hubby to bits!

Eid celebrations

My Eid this year was awesome. I spent the first day with my in laws family and the second with my own family at my mums house. Both days were full of laughter, gifts, beautiful clothes, yummy desserts and delicious, rich food!

Here’s a few pics of the celebrations:

We all also received plenty of cool gifts as me and my sisters have always exchanged each year for Eid. We usually make a wish list of what we want but it was so short this year we bought pretty things for each other we thought each might like. I loved my gifts! Here’s a pic of some of what I received (I tidied the rest away before taking a pic!)

I spent two days having a blast enjoying everyone’s company and making the most of family, making precious new memories with all those around me (including the new babies whose first Eid it was) especially my new family. Eid for me has always been special and this year round was no exception, as always Ramadan and Eid have come and gone so quickly but I look forward to the next one with just as much excitement as I received this years. How was your Eid and how did you spend it? X

Scrumptious food and delicious desserts

My mum in law had invited her younger brothers family over for Iftar on the weekend. Preparations were made a day in advance for the amazing feast that we were to have. Mum in laws brothers family lived nearby and had young children which we hadn’t seen in a while.

Mum in law made her absolutely delicious Eid style food, on the day my mouth watered a gazillions times with all the lovely smells wafting around the house. We had lamb pilau, chicken curry, meatball curry and plenty of side dishes. For starters were samosas and chicken wings (shop bought for an easier option).

Whilst mum was busy cooking, me and Saq decided to do dessert! I opted to go for fresh cream cupcakes that I have not made before topped with strawberries, strawberry sauce and chocolates. Saq decided he would make his own cake for a change and opted for the classic Victoria sponge with sugar icing on top.

I must say he did very well on his own, all I did was grease the tins for him! I helped out a little with making the flowers but his hard work paid off, he created a beautiful looking and quite professional cake 😊

Here are the results of our hard work:

Once all the guests had arrived everyone chipped in to help set up tables, food, prepare last minute bits. Here’s some of the beautiful food we had.

20130805-122348.jpg
my plate, yummy!

For desserts we had so much to choose from. Not only did me and saq make cakes, the guests also bought over a rich chocolate cake, Amirs other aunt also some home made apple pie. We hardly had space to eat them we were all so stuffed after the main course!

20130805-122537.jpg

We enjoyed the rest of the evening chatting and myself playing girly games with the young girls that came over who are very lovely indeed until it was time for everyone to leave in the early hours of the morning.

I’d like to make a point at the end however of how thankful I felt that day. Not everyone has the means to enjoy such a rich amount of food on their tables which is what ramadan is all about, understanding the hunger of the needy and I felt very grateful indeed to have all that I have in my life, a loving family, food in abundance and a place to call home. I know I really am lucky to have all of them and wish the same for everyone. X

Iftar with the family

Over the weekend we went over to Amirs cousins house in London (or as the boys call it ‘the ghetto’). We left late-ish and intended to get together late evening to open our fast.

When we got there the ladies got together to help prepare a feast. Mum in law made up her delicious samosas:

Aunty S fried all the samosas:

Cousins S made some delicious chocolate milkshake:

And I cut up the fruit (forgot to take a pic up close).

Me and cousin S set up the table with all the delightful starters.

Whilst all the ladies were hard at work, what were the boys upto?

20130725-092733.jpg
goofing around with the telly new surround sound system

The boys even managed to stop us working to get us all to hear the new system which in fact was pretty cool.

We sat down to open our fast and break samosas together…the food was absolutely scrumptious! Luckily my in laws cooking is just as amazing as my mums and every day for Iftar there is something yummy to eat.

waiting to start…

…and go!

It was a really nice atmosphere of talking and joking and crazy as my in laws are it wasn’t long before a game was started…Chinese whispers! The amount of times the words were changed to gobbledygook caused roars of laughter..

After we had all calmed down we dug into some chocolate cake given to cousin F for his birthday during the week and my New York cheesecake! πŸ™‚ I made two batches and bought one along for dessert, it was gobbled up pretty quickly.

20130725-093709.jpg

yum yum!

We stayed till late talking, joking and telling stories until our full stomachs bought on sleepiness which was our cue to leave and get tucked up into bed. I dozed off half a dozen times on the way back but was worth it having spent a really nice evening in the company of my lovely family. X

I’m back! Let the Turkey Tales begin! Day 1

I finally arrived back in the UK late Monday night and have returned tanned and relaxed! It was lots of fun, sun, sea and sand and nature at its most beautiful.

On the day we arrived at Dalaman airport we were pretty tired having travelled most of the day. It took us a further hour and a half to reach our hotel in Oludinez making it about midnight by the time we finally arrived. We crashed out exhausted and I took no notice of anything around me. That is until I woke up and looked out of the window to this!

gorgeous mountains in the background! Our hotel

We decided to explore the first day and see what was around. Amir had already been a few years back so luckily was able to remember places and trips we could go to which was handy to know. We walked down ‘the strip’ a road full of restaurants and shops catered specifically for tourists where it ended on a beautiful beach. On the way down the strip we were stopped and talked to dozens of times from the very friendly locals who worked there. Although its nice to see such friendliness I found at times it was a little too much when we just wanted to be left alone. Still can’t complain about over friendliness which is more than we can say for us stiff upper lipped Brits!

Once the sun started going down we made our way back to our hotel to relax and freshen up before taking an evening walk on the strip which came alive at night. Each night restaurants invited you in, bars has cheesy holiday music and dances going on and shops were open selling beautiful handmade trinkets and gifts.

20130522-142859.jpg

20130522-142913.jpg

The funniest thing about some shops were the blatant ripoff of UK based store names! Although to be fair they did also advertise just how fake they were as well…

20130522-143039.jpg

20130522-143050.jpg

I didn’t take pics of more but the names of shops which made me laugh included:
Azda (Turkish version of Asda)
Selfridgez
Del Boy’s travel agency
Harrrods (which looked like a pound store!)
Cut the crap (hairdressers)

Some of the locals had also mastered some of the British lingo to grab tourists attention and get them to buy things. I heard lots of ‘lubbly jubblies’ and ‘ere mate’ amongst some of the crazy phrases we laughed at.

The first day was nice as we got to look around and get our bearings. I was amazed at the beauty of the scenery we had and couldn’t wait to get stuck in to see what else we might discover…. X

Saq’s birthday bonanza 2

On the day of Saq’s birthday we had decided to go for a meal in London. The boys all too a day off so we lazed around during the day and took our time getting ready. We made out way to Central London and arrived at about 3.30pm. We waited for my sisters to arrive and relaxed with Starbucks and a walk to Spitalfields market. I managed to buy myself 3 summery dresses from one of the stalls πŸ™‚

We also saw some cool vintage cars which the boys went cuckoo for.

20130412-122137.jpg
Saq also took plenty of pics, you can see him in my pic

We then made our way to the restaurant. When we got there the scenic view was quite beautiful. It’s so strange to think there are quiet serene places like this amidst the busy hubbub of city life, especially in a city as busy and fast paced as London. We walked around and took more pics πŸ™‚

20130412-122405.jpg

20130412-122442.jpg

The restaurant Kenza itself was also gorgeous, Lebanese style food and decor which was stunning. I’ll let the pics do the talking.

We then made our way to a dessert place a few stops away called Motown which offered a range of sweet treats.

20130412-123050.jpg

We all ordered a range of delicious desserts. I picked brownie with choc ice cream, Amir always accidentally picks a huuuuge dessert but being an ice cream monster managed to finish his anyway πŸ™‚

By the time we left after all our laughing and relaxing it was time to go home. We made our way back to the station, said goodbye to my sisters and went to catch out train. Saq snapped plenty of random pics of us on the way.

All in all it was a fab day and a birthday well spent, Saq seemed to have had a really good day which was the aim. The birthday however is yet to continue though as the weekend is nearing and so we shall be continuing on our adventures πŸ™‚ happy birthday again Saq, hope you had a good one!! X
